Google Ordered to Pay For Wrong GANGSTER LinkAn Australian court has ordered internet search behemoth Google to pay a man $AU200,000 in damages for wrongly linking him to the Melbourne’s underworld.

Michael Trkulja came to Australia from the former Yugoslavia in the 1960s and is an elder in the Serbian Orthodox Church in Springvale, in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. In 2004, he was shot in the back while dining with his elderly mother at St Albans, in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The crime has never been solved.

But the Victorian Supreme Court heard, when entered into the search engines Yahoo and Google, Mr Trkulja name linked him to Melbourne’s criminal underworld, including to pictures of gangland boss Tony Mokbel

An Australian jury found in making the link, that the internet behemoth had wrongly implied Mr Trkulja was “so involved with crime in Melbourne, that his rivals had hired a hit-man to murder him.”

Lawyers for Google rejected the jury’s finding and tried to distance the company from the publication of the links. They also argued that Yahoo was first to make the wrong connection and therefore struck “the first substantial blow” to Mr Trkulja’s reputation :: Read the full article »»»»

ANOTHER Report Saying “Decriminalise Cannabis”

Legalise Cannabis CampaignAnother national report into the use of  illicit drugs has recommended decriminalising cannabis and ecstasy via a government controlled program aimed at helping to curb addiction.

The report offers an alternatives to our current prohibition stance on illicit drugs, in this latest report by a group of futurists, academics and  prominent Australians from the social research group Australia 21, the  authors emotively push the line, “The prohibition of illicit drugs is killing and criminalising our children and we are all letting it happen.”

The report seems to be pushing the point that “By defining the personal use and possession of certain psychoactive drugs as criminal acts, governments have also avoided any responsibility to regulate and control the quality of substances that are in widespread use. Some of these illicit drugs have demonstrable health benefits.

The group argues that illicit drugs should be controlled, taxed and scorned in much the same way governments deal with tobacco and alcohol.

The report also argues that decriminalising soft-drugs like cannabis would have some effect on household crime? Saying that a substantial proportion of Australia’s street and household crime is a direct consequence of the trade in these drugs…

HSU President Quits via SMS - Image via The Australian - Dan HimbrechtsAustralia’s ABC News is reporting that embattled Health Services Union national president Michael Williamson has resigned via text message after damning allegations of nepotism at the scandal-hit union.

Acting HSU national president Chris Brown has confirmed he received the text message tendering Mr Williamson’s resignation on Monday. It comes less than two weeks after a leaked report into the union’s internal workings alleged that Mr Williamson engaged in nepotism while he was general secretary of the branch.

Mr Williamson stood aside last September when investigations into allegations of misuse of funds in the union’s East branch began, though he still formally held the position. Mr Brown says Mr Williamson resigned ahead of a national executive committee meeting in Sydney yesterday.

“He’d advised me by text so I have not yet had an opportunity to speak to Michael Williamson but I’ve taken the resignation as being effective immediately,” Mr Brown said. “It’s another piece of [what] we needed to occur to clean up the union and get it to the stage where members could get back to having confidence in it. What we’ll be able to do now is fill that position of national president.”

The Australian Online is reporting that it has been told Mr Williamson submitted his resignation before the Unions NSW’s executive committee could meet to consider his fate. Unions NSW has accepted his resignation :: Read the full article »»»»

Three NSW Police Officers Remain ON Duty Despite Lying Under OathIt’s clear that Socially Engineered adores a good hypocrisy, even more so when it comes from those laboured with keeping things straight. Three New South Wales police officers remain on duty despite being referred to the corruption watchdog for lying under oath.

Ballina Local Court heard the case of Aboriginal man Corey Barker, who was arrested in the tranquil north coast holiday town last year for allegedly throwing a bottle. The court heard the officers had claimed he became violent, punching Senior Constable David Hill in the face.

At the time of trial, security footage of the melee was unavailable, apparently due to faulty equipment. However, when security footage was repaired, it showed it was police who had assaulted the 23-year-old. Senior Constable Ryan Eckersley kicked Mr Barker in the head and another officer kneed him in the side  :: Read the full article »»»»
