Volkswagen Tops China Car Sales

VW Tops China Car SalesVW are now the biggest automotive manufacturer in the world’s biggest automotive market, quite a contrast to their US operations where they skirt around the middle of the pack.

Volkswagen were once much-loved in the US for their quality, but have since seriously fallen out of favor.

Over in the Middle Kingdom VW’s pull on the Chinese public is immense, the German auto-makers offer stretches from the cheapest $US12,000 hatch to the $US175,000 Phaeton übersedan.

And it seems that anything with a VW badge riveted to the front and back panels seems to simply drive out the showroom doors.

Volkswagen sold 3.27 million vehicles in China last year, it’s closest rival, GM, sold 3.16 million cars, now the race is on for VW to become the world’s biggest automotive manufacturer, but for them to achieve that result they will need to improve the way the US market views them :: Read the full article »»»»

REVIEW! My NEW Love, 2013 Fiat 500 Pop

Posted: August 23rd, 2013 | Author: | Filed under: Grilled Auto News | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | Comments Off on REVIEW! My NEW Love, 2013 Fiat 500 Pop

FIAT-500-REVIEWDISCLOSURE! I Like this car a bit more than I should, this review might have a bias toward the plus end…

Fiat 500 ticks all my boxes for style, function and price, and NO this isn’t a paid advertisement, the 500 truly left an impression. At $AU14,ooo you get a lot of little car. The closest European is the Soviet styled VW UP, and I dare you to find a Japanese or Korean model with this much pizaz.

This slick little city-car has been around since 2007 – and I’ve loved it that long – the latest upgrades, updates and slight remodelling go well beyond it’s emotional curves, 500 has kept pace with ‘what we expect’ from a new car, the smile you get driving this car still astounds me.

While I’m on the disclosure thingy, I must admit to convincing a girlfriend she needed a 500 Rockstar – sorry, think you’ve missed that gem – but keep your eye on the Fiat site for great limited edition models fiat.com.au :: Read the rest of this post »»»

Oops Toyota Recalls 900,000 MORE Cars

Oops Toyota Recalls 900,000 MORE CarsNO This isn’t a reprint, this is ANOTHER recall! Japanese auto giant Toyota says it will recall more than 900,000 vehicles in Canada, Japan, Mexico and the United States because of an airbag problem!

Toyota will replace parts used in more than 900,000 hatchbacks, named Voltz in Japan and Corolla and Corolla Matrix overseas, and produced between 2001 and 2004, a company spokesman said.

The control unit of the vehicles’ airbags could be damaged by minor electrical noise, and “the airbag could open wrongly in a worst scenario,” the spokesman said. At least 47 cases of the malfunction had been reported, mainly in the United States.

Toyota separately said it would recall some 385,000 Lexus IS cars globally to change windscreen wiper parts, following problems in snow.

Once lauded for its safety standards, Toyota has been forced into damage control mode in recent years after recalling millions of vehicles due to a series of serious defects :: Read the full article »»»

3rd Time Lucky, South Korea HAS Liftoff

Posted: February 2nd, 2013 | Author: | Filed under: Grilled Auto News | Tags: , , , , , , | Comments Off on 3rd Time Lucky, South Korea HAS Liftoff

3rd Time Lucky via AFPSouth Korea has successfully launched a space rocket carrying a science satellite, in a high-stakes test of national pride after North Korea got there first with a rocket launch last month. It was the South’s third attempt to launch a civilian rocket to send a satellite in orbit in the past four years.

It came after two previous launches were aborted at the 11th hour last year due to technical glitches. The launch vehicle, named Naro, lifted off from South Korea’s space centre on the south coast and successfully went through stage separation before entering orbit, officials at mission control said.

Initially scheduled for October 26, today’s launch had been twice postponed for technical reasons. The delay meant that rival North Korea was able to claim a rare technological victory over the South by launching a satellite into orbit on a three-stage rocket on December 12.

South Korea remains far behind regional rivals China and Japan in the effort to build space rockets to put satellites into orbit and has relied on other countries, including Russia, to join the space race :: Read the full article »»»»
